Along the way to greater heights. On the track over the lone, low, pointless hill in Poverty Flats (one of my 'go to' places!) past the cactus and the cattle, and on to the inevitable return to pavement. Progressing along, passing the turn-off to Pack Creek (an enclave of high rent abodes just far enough out of town to be thought of as being 'beyond the bother of the typical tourist town worries and woes'), then continuing along the westerly portion of the LaSal Mountain Loop Road. Heavy wind and the threat of rain may have dissuaded most, but nevertheless, in ambling past, I witnessed what appeared to be a flying tent high overhead (presumably, with no one still --or panicked!-- inside), and shortly thereafter I saw a colorful mylar balloon gyring off toward yesterday's infinity.
It was a very fine day.
Geee-- these are nearly as good as I could do!!! ;-)

Wow, these are all nice. Great colors and compositions.
I especially like the next to last one. Like the way the jagged tree stumps leads you right into the picture.

Some days, you just get lucky !!!

The are outstanding shots. The download are rich in color and detail! Love them all.
Thats some country you got there. Never been there and likely never will. My main thought, is wondering what it feels like to be there. That something that words don't cover. Mark

Blind squirrels & acorns; monkeys & typewriters & Shakespeare. Ev'ry dog has its day. And probably fleas, too. Which is why some days its just not worth chewing through the wrist restraints, so I just stay home and pull weeds in the yard.
It was indeed "a very fine day" as your
photos are a pleasure to see.
Your writing is also a pleasure to read.
I was in suspense as to where your
words would lead.

I was wondering what it feels like to be here, too, Mark. And to itch that scratch --considering the drama of the skies as is my usual cue-- I set off to try to find out. Looooong line of cars at the entrance to Arches, out to the highway and half way to the River.... hmmm, no point trying to go
there. As much or more traffic along the way to ISKY or Dead Horse or the splendiferous desert sections toward the Green where now, there are whole mini-cities of $100K RVs and screaming ATVs and, well, general mayhem, so I retreated to Cedar Ridge only to be bombarded by billions (ok, that's an exaggeration, but not by a lot) of mountain bikers. Managed to get a decent shot or two before the tire tracks across my back turned sore and bloody, but not wanting to completely vacate the day, I headed south, down toward Poverty and up toward the hills.
What's it feel like to be here? Sometimes I wish I was in the middle of Kansas, or any other possible podunk place the tourists have yet to 'discover.' Which, I suppose, is another way of saying....... AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!
Took a spin around the La Salle loop last summer; it was a splendid trip and almost no traffic. Then back to Moab and the crowded...everything. But the area remains a special place and sometimes the crowds thin enough to make it tolerable. The ride up the river is also very enjoyable, and there are side roads to explore. We try to get to Utah every year or so (from S Texas) to replenish our souls in the solitude. For those interested, the trip south along US 191 into Southern Arizona is worth the effort, IMHO, but gets pretty twisty in some spots. I think anywhere within two hundred miles of Four Corners is worth exploring.
The light and colors in #4 are amazing! Beautiful photos.
As we missed our planned trip to Utah last year, darn Covid, we are planning for next year. Hearing of the crowds is scary. I really want to get back there!

Your usual excellent work makes me want to be there, Jim. We have a yert in Dead Horse this September. Maybe things will calm down a bit by then.
