North European Plain 35 - Germany/Bamberg 2 - The famous picturesque Old Town Hall
This second set on Bamberg provides a variety of views of the famous Old Town Hall, situated on an island in the river Regnitz, highlights here are the massive tower but most of all the wall frescoes on both sides of the building, plus we note as well as some other buildings and sights from this area.
OLD TOWN HALL - Built in the middle of the Regnitz river, accessible by two bridges. The Old Town Hall in Bamberg is quite a curiosity: The frescoes that adorn the facades are as amazing as the story behind the building's construction. According to legend the bishop of Bamberg did not grant the citizens any land for the construction of a town hall. This prompted the townsfolk to ram stakes into the river Regnitz to create an artificial island, on which they built the town hall they so badly wanted. The Old Town Hall's frescoes never fail to impress as they lend the facades a three-dimensional quality achieved with trompe d'oeil architecture. A special detail is a continual source of mirth among tourists: The leg of a cherub protrudes out of the wall as a sculpture. Today the Old Town Hall accommodates the prestigious rococo hall and the Ludwig Collection.

Beautiful town, beautifully photographed.
Beautiful shots of the town hall, about the only thing I remember about Bamberg.
Beautiful, Joe. I really like the first image.
A unique place. Well done, Joe.

Thanks Mike, the town hall is definitely the first place to remember - unless you are totally taken by their "Rauchbier"!

Thank you Barbara, Bamberg really is an interesting place and that town hall with its architecture, location and particularly the full-facade paintings are extraordinary.
Joe, this is another beautiful set also. I really like #1, the downriver shot, and #3, the closeup of the Old Town Hall is beautiful. I like the closeup of the Town Hall Tower, and the really like how you framed the buildings to the East from inside the tower gate. The rest of the set is super as well. Great job, and thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much Vince, I am pleased to hear that you found so many favorites in this swell town! Joe
Yes, the town hall is definitely a good memory. #3 is iconic and #5 could be a painting. Very nice.
