After much research I’m going mirrorless and selling my 5D MIV….I went back and forth about what camera body I was really seeking out, the pros and cons of each and made a decision, finally! I even researched other brands including Nikon and Sony.
I’m buying the Canon R5 and an adapter for my EF lenses.
In the end it comes down to megapixels, tracking capabilities, quiet shooting and last swivel screen and in camera IS. I’m disabled with severe nerve damage from a spine reconstruction and so my balance and hand control is glitchy. Also I have a micro eye movement disorder so the tracking features will be stellar for me!! I use a tripod and monopod but love shooting without them. In the end for me this is the right move forward!

I’m not going to say my photography is the best or the worst. However it works for me! I’m always looking for a way to improve my images and make my physical experience more comfortable. I have had an amazing experience with my 5D IV. There is a ton of life left in the body after all I have only used 45%, per shutter count that is. It’s pretty pristine actually and really should enjoy the rest of its life being used! I bought brand new Dec 2018. My equipment is babied and from a smoke free home.

I’m putting together a list of items with prices and photos along with this camera or separate and will be listing them here first!

Some pics I took recently.

Beautiful shots. I take it these are not with a new mirrorless camera. Not sure how you could improve on these.

I love the first one.

All of your photos are gorgeous, but that first one knocked my socks off. Nicely done!

The EOS R5 will change how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life.

Assure too you're shooting in RAW, processing with tools that can accept the native RAW files from your new EOS R5, and that you have the storage and processing power to handle these new, larger files.

Sometimes I shoot in raw depending on the depth I plan with post processing. Most of those are jpeg though if not all. Thank you for the further information on storage and speed. I am looking a larger fast flash card. My iMac should be able to handle new files being loaded into photos as well. I just have a little housekeeping to do there.
When mirrorless was first introduced I was dead set against it. However I never thought I’d give up my old film camera for a DSLR either and here we are! 😂…

Your photos are beautiful--Just how much better is this new equipment going help? Law of Diminishing Returns. I suspect you won't be able to tell the difference. Only thing that will change is the percentage of keepers./

To start with the swivel screen. I am unable to twist or bend at the waist. Having the 70d prior was nice with the rotating screen and then once I bought the 5DMiv that changed things for me physically in how I can take pics.
Resolution is another reason. I tend to shoot and then crop especially if it’s farther away and I do not have the lens length to crop in camera tighter. Being able to bring out details is important to me. Macro work I suspect won’t be too affected by this being it’s tight and pretty clean.
The noise is disturbing for wildlife and if I want to be in the woods for deer I really want a quieter approach.
The eye locking technology the R5 has seems to be perfect for me as I have a eye disorder that doesn’t allow me to hold focus and I am in turn not capturing the shots of critters that I want clearly or focus where I really want it while their moving.
In camera stabilization for me will be more beneficial with my medical condition. I have many physical challenges due to a life altering surgery and so anything that can help me especially with photography the better. Photography is my passion as I’ve held a camera since I was a little girl and always intrigued. This camera seems to have checked the boxes I wanted to assist me!
And Thank you!!

Beyond the EF-RF adapters, there's several new accessories that have to be obtained along with changing to the new EOS R5 mirrorless technology to maximize the burst speed and storages needs of 45MP RAW images. RAW and post processing is the way to maximize the camera, the lens and the photographer's capabilities. Although, a JPEG at that same massive 45MP, with a modest amount of additional processing, is valid for the vast majority of all photography needs.

My point was that the EOS R5 adds all the generic mirror advantages along with the AF unique capabilities of this model. But still, the photographer needs to maximize the potential of these high-end tools. Hopefully, you recognize this equipment should be capable of supporting your photography needs for the next 10+ years, something your EOS 5DIV was also intended to provide.

Wow!!!! These are great! That first one is a seller/wall hanger for sure, and the last one is too. Congrats on the new camera, you will love it. Good decision, and for the right reasons. It sound like it will be a perfect fit with you.

Keep having fun and posting. Always love your work.

You’re not the first person to mention missing the flippy screen! When I went from a 6d2 to a 5d4 and before that, a 70d to a 7d2, the most challenging adjustment for this old body and mind was cases where I previously took advantage of the flippy to get an angle. I think you’re set! 👍😎☑️
