Well, we’ve had the plague, and after the last few hurricane seasons and sea level rise, we’ve had the floods, so except for the locusts...

And there are areas enjoying 17 year locusts as we speak. Just where they are is curiously interesting.

I believe they just pulled the trigger to move their operations out of Japan at an inopportune time and having difficulty getting the new facilities up and running.
By this time next year this will all be old history and Nikon will be doing just fine.

If you closely read the article, it only mentions one lens. Don't Panic!

Article says the AFS Nikkor 180-400 f4e lens is on hold, not all lenses.

Possibly the computer chip shortage has made it's way to the camera world impacting production...just a guess....

I speculate this is yet another sign of global supply chain issues. Blame COVID and trade politics. We may get past this.

But many of the same model are still plural. Twenty of one lens model would be twenty lenses.
It's in the inference as well as the wording.

You are correct - my mistake.

And BTW, my post was for information only. I am NOT a Nikon “gloom and doom” prognosticator. I shoot Canon and Fuji now, but I have owned Nikons for many years (and still have two bodies and 6 lenses) - I think they make great cameras, and I hope this legendary brand continues for MANY years longer.
