Planning to stay near Spokane for a little over a week. Would like some information from people familiar with the area for Photo ops.

Interested in landscapes, old buildings, scenic drives and wildlife. At this point we are planning on possible drives to the lakes in North Idaho, Glacier NP, and Wallowa, OR.

Thanks in Advance, Rick

Check out the area of Palouse Falls, WA. You won't be disappointed.

Hello Rick,
I have done this many times, sunrise and sunset. But it is well worthwhile any time of day. Take SR 155 from the Coulee Dam south to Soap Lake. You will be blown away by the beauty.

Presumably you already know about Steptoe Butte in Colfax and the surrounding Palouse countryside.

You didn't say when you were going but I believe that the road to Steptoe Butte is closed right now due to construction.

You don't say when you will be visiting. If it is within the next several weeks a drive through the Palouse should be at the very top of your list. People come from all across the country to see the green rolling hills of the Palouse this time of year. It is about 75 miles from Spokane to Pullman which is where I stay when I photograph the Palouse. The link below will take you to some shots of the Palouse I took in early June 2018 from Steptoe Butte (which is open - road construction has been delayed). BTW - Wallowa Oregon is over 200 miles from Spokane. That's a lot of driving for one day.

There are few places in the Western US as gorgeous as North Idaho, one reason why Coeur d’Alene is the hottest housing market in the US. Finding vantage points to photograph the magnificent landscapes is a challenge, however. A good resource is Linda Lantzy’s book “Discovering Idaho’s Scenic Drives and Backroad Treasures.”

I lived in Coeur d'Alene for twenty years, spending numerous days photographing the Palouse area. When you are in the town of Palouse, go to the visitors center and get the photographers map for the area. It will show numerous photo locations, specifically for old barn, mills, etc. Steptoe Butte is especially good for sunrise and sunset shots!!
The ride around Lake Coeur d'Alene can provide good shots as well. Check out lilies on the lake in Harrison. You can check out my website for representative pictures, imagesbyduke.zenfolio.com. I am headed there after Memorial Day weekend.

Go to the wine country along the Columbia river. You can taste between shots.

This is where I live. PM me for specifics. Spokane: Riverfront park and its carousel and clock tower, interior of the historic Davenport hotel, falls of the Spokane river, the county courthouse. All that without getting into your car. Museum of Native American Culture in Brownes Addition- an area of historic houses from the late 1800”s and early 1900’s. The Palouse, Palouse Falls and Steptoe as mentioned. Mount Spokane with vast vistas. Colville and Tiger pass and the chain of lakes and falls. In N Idaho, Coeur d ‘Alene both the town and the lake. Someone else mentioned Harrison. On lake Pend Orille Sandpoint is a scenic town on the north end and Bayview on the south end. My personal favorite is Priest Lake and the alpine Selkirks. A hike up Mt Roothan to view Chimney Rock is spectacular. Don’t know where you live but distances here are deceiving. Glacier Park is over 300 miles away and given your limited time in the area it might be doable but the Going to the Sun road is just now opening from the winter snow. It is truly one of the most beautiful places in the continental US. If it can be fit into your schedule I’d give you a boat ride on Priest lake.
