Thanks for this image. It got me thinking about my memories and more adult philosophy toward baseball in later life. I haven't thought about this specific topic in a long, long time. Thank you.
But, the issue-topic that came to mind was how simple, how pure and how 'natural' baseball was as a pre-teen. And how, somehow, after this developing age, organized, then high school, then college, then professional baseball seemed (to me) weakened and polluted by money and fame. - As kids, we loved baseball for what it was and how it made us feel. This seemed 'polluted' by more grown up feelings of money and fame in the coming years.
Paul this all came about a few weeks ago. I was walking by one of the HS diamonds when I spotted a guy moving a few things by the backstop. Turns out he is the coach. I asked if the school was going to play this year. I think what he said summed it up your line of thinking. He told me he called as many schools as he could to put a schedule together. He wasn’t concerned about won/loss recorded. His only concern was to get out and play some games. Last year’s schedule was cancelled.
I been to a couple of games. I will probably get back to another one or two.
