IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS JUST RESPOND WITH YES, IF NOT take a guess
The tool is circa 1905-1915
Just for fun I acquired this tool a couple of weeks ago from a guy on Craigs List went to pick it up and ended up chatting with him for over and hr. It was well worth the 200mile round trip.
Does the center piece move?
Slide hammer of some sort, nail puller wouldn’t have a slide. My guess 🔨
Some sort of a slap hammer.

It is a nail puller. The slide hammer bangs the two prongs into the wood so they can get under the head of the nail and when you pry back on it the prongs tighten on the nail under the head. In those days we pulled the nails and saved the boards. It seems nowadays that they just take a wrecking bar to everything and take it all to the dump.

Nope not even close, a nail puller is longer and the slide hammer is longer and usually square with the corners rounded, the jaws are only about 1/4"wide and shaped like hooks one of which has a shoe about 3" long on it so you can get leverage to pull the nail. I have made many a blister on my hand using of of the damned things!!!!

I have never heard it called a slap hammer.
To all who said slide hammer you are right , but this has one specific use.
I'll reveal the use later if no one come up with it.
I have 4 slide hammer pullers besides this one, One is a set of two having specific use to remove the front pump housing on automatic transmissions, the other two are sets, one three pounder and the other a five pounder each having a set adapters so you can use them for many different task.
Pulling out dents in a body shop?

The Tool is a Ford speciality tool
And the answer is:
A blind hole puller commonly used to pull Pilot bearings
When I purchased the tool I knew what it was
I didn't know its history.
The screen shot image has the original "D" handle missing
