Im looking to step up to some faster glass as a general walk around lens outdoors and indoors Im looking at the 24-70 F2.8 any one with this lens on a D7K ?? I know this is an FX lens this way i can keep if someday i move to FX Ive heard its part of a holy trinity of Nikon lens ?? im looking to replace my 18-70 4.5-5.6 appreciate the help. Im not concerned about its weight i have already Nikor 105 2.8 70-300 4.5-5.6 and 35 1.8

Use it all the time on my D-7000. Love the nice sharp pictures I get from it.
I am with Acountry330 - have the D7000 and the D3. Use it on both - great lens on both bodies.
people are expecting 24/70 vr||.soon like canon.

Is VR really neccesary with fast glass ?? Captain C i really value your insight ..... your thoughts on value for the money for this lens ?? Its pricey but most of the reviews i have read rate it highly.

It is not necessary, but of course VR is one of those things that if you do need it it is great to have. For me, it is not needed.I do mostly portrait work and even outside I am using strobes or speedlights, so I do not miss it at all. I have VR on my 70-200 that I have had for over 9 years and I bet I have not used the VR function 20 times....OK, maybe 23.
Personally, I would not wait for a VR version, but if you do a lot of low-light, hand-held stuff, then the VR version could be just what you want.
I totally agree.24/70 is a great professional lens.
