Has anyone tried out or purchased the new Canon 24-70 L II lens? If so, I would like to know what you think of the image sharpness and response of the lens. I have the mark I and I am disappointed with the results that are produced. A lot of my pics are soft. Is the new Mark II an improvement in picture quality with "spot on" sharpness? I know it's not my vision because I just had cataract removal procedures on my eyes and I'm seeing 20/35 out of both.

Have you checked your current lens for front/back focus?
No personal experience with it. But, I viewed a review that compared images taken on the same camera with the I and II versions of the 24-70, with noticeable clarity in the II version shots (not that the I shots were poor either).
I have the 24-70 f2.8L ii on order and have rented the mark i version. I am hoping to have in about two weeks, as I am told. The pics I took with the mark i version were tack sharp, looking forward to the new lens. Gary

Something is wrong with your lens then. Have your lens checked by a professional. If you check reviews on the older 24-70mm lens you will see that it is one of Canons flagship lenses that people talk about to this day. Even the 28-70mm lens was one of the best lenses I've ever owned. Everyone talks about the tack sharp results with them. I have two friends with them and I have one. The only complaint anyone has is that they are a little heavy.
The new model II will not be a major improvement that you can easily see with your naked eye. The objective lens is larger and the lens coatings have been improved, this this is all scientific mumbo jumbo that is designed to get people to keep buying new products and keep the stock holders happy. It costs almost $1000 more than the model I and Canon still didn't include IS on the model II. Maybe if they had included IS it 'miiiiight' be worth it.
The only reason you would be really impressed with the new model II is because your old model I might have a problem with focus/sharpness.
Make sure you check your body out too. You can do a check of all your equipment with a tripod and a calibration target. If all your other lenses are tack sharp and the 24-70 is not, you know for sure there's a problem with your lens.

I have the mark I and I'm totally satified with it. The images have been extremely sharp from both my 5DMKII and my 7D.

Great link - Thanks - Great info ! - reaffirms Ken Rockwell's review !
I have the canon 24-70ii L len's on my Canon 5D3, it's very sharp and well worth the money I paid for it, all my other len's are prime like the 135,200, and the canon 500 F4 ii. This Len is just as sharp, and the best part, I did not need to buy a poloizer filter, as this len's adds colour, while the Canon 135mm does not, being a portrait len's. You will not be disappointed...
