I just got hold of an old Canon G7X, to help with images for a website I am putting together. Just wonder what other forum members think of these? Seems very nicely made and cost was about the same as a used plastic lens for an entry level Nikon DSLR.

I didn't look up the specs on the older model. The v II's of the Powershots have wifi and the (then) newest DIGIC processor versions. They shoot in RAW so if you maximize the image file, you can process a great result. I trust my G9XII to capture anything I want to spend the effort into capturing at 20MP. As a travel camera, the wifi lets me move the image from the camera to the phone to social media from a hotel room with no computer equipment, if desired. The in-camera RAW processing is still better than the JPEG, again if I want to spend the time.

As you already have it, simply give it a try and find out. Nothing beats first hand experience when it comes to cameras and lenses, as photographic needs vary from person to person.

Thanks, I certainly intend to use it as much as possible. For my use the bargain price, tiltable screen, F1.8-2.8 lens, with 4X zoom, is perfect!

With this style camera, I shoot in Aperture priority capturing both RAW and JPEG and +0.3 EC in AUTO-ISO. If your model has a pop-up flash, check too if it has flash exposure compensation. You really have a lot of control if you can manage the flash output and can flip between aperture priority, or say going to manual and upping the shutter to a speed you can handhold and get a sharp image.

Here's a manual model result, letting the ISO float up to ISO-500 while I managed a shutter at 1/160 rather than relying on the IBIS at a slower speed. Certainly, I'd like the minimum frames to get something to keep, but being digital, I can shoot, check & update and shoot again until I find the setting that works. My G9 doesn't have the tilt screen so the awkward holding and checking the results is more the regular mode for my model.

I recently bought a Canon G5x II used from Keh. I got it for a walk around and travel camera since I can’t be bothered to carry even my mirrorless unless it is for work. So far only took jpegs as I don’t have time nor frankly interest in pp. I have been very pleased with the images sharpness and overall IQ. I mostly use aperture priority with a bit of exposure compensation.

Looks good to me.........I think messing around with PP means you need to have a good deal of spare time on your hands.
