I'm sure almost everyone has seen the back lash over some of the new books that are being read by our children thanks to the weird-o's teaching in schools now. I'm not sure which side this lady is on, but she does make it funny! What do you think?

I'm glad it's about the beaver that takes down trees and builds dams.

That one is funny with tons of deceptive references but some of them are just plain porn or soft porn. I saw clips of some parents reading some to a school board as part of a protest and a few passages had more bleeps than words. Sex, body parts etc. etc. I believe the group of parents were also threatening to do their best to elect a new board at the next e******n if those books and the program they were part of wasn't pulled from the schools.

At one point one of the board members objected and tried to shut up the parent who replied on the order of "If it isn't suitable to read here then why is suitable to assign to our children?"

Robert, I saw that also. I was shocked. Parents need to check all of their kid's homework. The institutes of learning are becoming more and more institutes of indoctrination and parents should not be afraid to speak up.

I am saddened by the reaction of several protesters. It just exhibits their prejudices and inability to use language.

There are many works that do play on what people think about. And the "porn" is not in the book or the words. It is in the dark musty parts of some reader's brain.

The "wierd-os" are those who are complaining. Wh**ever you do, don't allow these folks anywhere near Shakespeare.

The children will see the actual humor of the book. It is the sad adults that apply the image of that which scares them.

Stephan G, how naive could you possibly be. To think that using a beaver in the story does not elicit a suggestive response is simply ignoring it’s intent. The author could have used any number of other small animals for the story’s purpose.
And to call protesters ( parents ) “weirdos” is not exactly empathetic to the parents concerns about what their children are being taught while in the care of the educational system in this country. All parents should question curriculum and make their concerns heard at school board meetings.

Obviously, you have not seen the reports on some of the books that some teachers are forcing these filthy books on children in schools. "mary likes big d---s. Every girl needs big d---s some times." Those particular sentences were from a book directed to a young girl in the ninth grade. So Stephan G, you think these, "would be words that would play on what people think about. And the "porn" is not in the book or the words. It is in the dark musty parts of some reader's brain"? Some of these types of books are being forced on children much younger than ninth graders. This is nothing but indoctrination that some schools and teachers are using on our children to destroy what morals are left in the world of today. If you don't see that you are part of the problem. I hope you don't really believe this type of material is alright in our children's schools.

I learned English (American) when I turned nine. I love to play with connotations. But I do find many to be lacking in understanding and appreciating language.

Naive? I can name the vulva (Latin) in several of versions in other languages. At one time, I could even be able to describe the structure of that female human body area. (Did someone say "Camel-toe"?) But that is neither here or there. It is the naivete shown that is problematic to me with the many parents who burn books because they are told to protest by someone else.

I prefer to have educated and learned people to come out of schools. This means that we have people who can actually be adults in our society.

The joke about the book of the beaver is on the many who put out their "shocked" masks. The story is humorous. But the "dirt" is infused by adults who press their connotations (not even really sexual), read indoctrination, on children.

I have been to high schools that had magazines only in their libraries. The school boards felt it was a waste of money to buy books when the students bolt when they reach their Junior grade. And I have watched "concerned" parents protest books that they have not even looked at the book.

"Question the curriculum"? We hire experts to teach our children and hog tie them when they have to do the job. How far have you investigated a curriculum? Do you know what it means? Just asking. "Make their concerns heard"? Do you know where said curriculum is selected? And why? (You may be in for a surprise.)

I remember when a "protesting" parent shut down a school system because she did not know what "n***ardly" meant. (The term originates from England in 1600s!)

Empathy? Pah! Many don't even merit sympathy.

And no beaver was hurt in making the book. (Imagine a groundhog with a paddle for a tail.)

9th grade?

Have you spent any time in a ghetto or such environment?

Instead of running out covering one's head, this is a teaching moment regarding what our youth face. Work on why this is problematic. Give a good idea about inherent prejudices and why they are so damaging.

Pretense is part of the problem. Do think on this. And the sliding standard which is for the birds.

Morals are taught and gotten from the home, not the school. So focus accordingly.
