Stump the Stars (Birders. that is!)
Looked out at the feeder from my desk - a complete stranger! Looks a little like an odd Goldfinch. I always get fired up by a new visitor, shot first from the desk then moving closer, through glass. With insurance shots in hand, opened the patio door and got these last few. Haven't looked it up yet. D7200 AF S Nikkor 200-500 1:5.6 E ED
Maybe an Evening Grosbeak?

That would be my thought, too.
Wow! Cool bird.....and photos!
Beautiful whatever it is. Great captures.
Great shots....I agree, Merlin says it's an Evening Grosbeak. I have never had the pleasure to see one.
We get black-headed and Blue Grosbeaks
Thanks for the confirmation - it was probably the easiest look up ever. Luck, no doubt!

Never seen one before this - one of the maps shows this as "non breeding" range. You wonder how they come up with that info, especially in a place like Montana.
Handsome bird, good catch, QD!
Beautiful bird. I've never seen one.
