A photograph taken on our out west trip last September. Chimney Rock is a prominent geological rock formation in Morrill County in western Nebraska. Rising nearly 300 feet (91 m) above the surrounding North Platte River valley, the peak of Chimney Rock is 4,228 feet (1,289 m) above sea level. The formation served as a landmark along the Oregon Trail, the California Trail, and the Mormon Trail during the mid-19th century. The trails ran along the north side of the rock. Thanks for looking!

Very nicely done. Is the sky the original for this image?

Thanks. I really liked the scene. A storm was blowing in across the plains.

Yes its original. I haven’t gotten into sky replacement. I’m kind of a novice with regard to post processing. I do shoot in raw which I believe offers more information to aid in bringing out details like these clouds. This was done using Lightroom. Basically adjustments in contrast, clarity, dehaze and texture. Also with highlights shadows whites and blacks being adjusted. Oddly enough there is very little sharpening or noise reduction used. I pulled those back from default.

It's an outstanding image. I just noticed that there is some haloing around the subject. Just a result of processing, I guess. It does not detract from a fine image, though.

Thanks. I don’t Know what is causing this haloing effect yet. I have tried everything to get rid of it. That’s one reason why I took almost all the sharpening out to try and lessen it. If you look close, this halo runs all the way down the sky/ ground ridge. As I recall, the sun was strong behind Chimney rock and over the hill coming in at a somewhat low angle. I’m going to go back to the original raw file and start over to see what I can do.
Thanks for your kind comments.
