Epson all-in-one printer/scanners work very well if you're going to frame with glass. The ink look great but it's water soluble.
You can get photo printers that use permanent ink but the cost is significantly higher and not necessary for the purpose you stated......

Doesn't the ink stick to the glass over time?

All in one printers are good but not the print quality of photo printers.

I don't know if this is brought up by anyone else, but whatever printer is used it should be used quite frequently. The ink dries up and needs to be cleaned. I've heard that Windex-D is good to use. Any other suggestions?

SOOOO many out there, but i do like to have a sharp print that warrants "saving."

It's pricey, at $600, but Epson FINALLY made an inkjet 8.5x11" PHOTO printer with their EcoTank bulk bottled Claria ink feed available here in the USA. The dye inks come in six 70ml bottles, instead of cartridges that hold just a few ml.

For another $100, the ET8550 will print up to 13x19".

If you are a prolific home printer, one of these can save you a lot of money over its lifespan. However, I'd avoid owning any home printer if you won't use it at least weekly. Printers thrive on heavy use. If you can use inkjet ink within six months of opening it or two years of buying it, you can avoid head clogs.

I have 3 Canon printers, 1 is for documents, etc, although I has 4 colors plus black so it would be fine for snapshots. I also have an almost 13yo Canon Pixma pro 9000 that has 8 colors plus black. My 3rd printer is a Canon Pixma Pro 100 that is 6 or 7yo. It has 7 colors (I think) plus light grey, dark grey and black. they can print up to 13 x 19 prints. I used the Pro 100 yesterday after a 6 month hiatus, and it worked perfecly. I'm happy with my Canon printers.

I've been hoping for the Epson L1800 that can only be bought in Europe and Asia!

Printers is the culmination of you work, buy a decent printer. I find that Canon and Epson seem to make better quality printers. The printers with more different inks will give you better color reproduction.

Yep and after many years of Epsons I switched to Canon. Much better overall imho! Harry

It depends on your "perfection to cost" ratio.
The TR8520 does nicely for me.
I don't need a grandiose printer for "home" use.
My 8x10s & 8x12s look very nice.
No one has complained yet.

One more note: After you buy and set up your printer, the program in the set up or system is balanced for that EXACT INK. The use of third party inks will not give you the exact results as the printer system was designed for.
