Looking for help, my wife and I will be going to Seattle
on Dec.1,2012. We are going to visit our grand daughter
and her husband, at Joint Base Lewis McCord base.
My wife has never flown before and this being our first
time going to Seattle, I was woundering if any one on UHH
lives around the base that could give me a few pointers on
how to get to the base. We will be landing at SEATAC airport
around 2:40 PM.
I really don't want to rent a car not knowing what the weather
will be in the area in December. Being from Louisiana, I really
don't have much experence in driving in snow or icey roads.
Can't wait to see your state(and grand daughter and great
grand kidds and her husband) would be greatful for any help,
do's and don't, look out fars, or what ever. Thanks you guys

Howdy.

One hint for your wife being on a 1st plane trip is to check with your doctor for maybe a light relaxer. My mother-in-law got a small valium but I think just a .25 xanax is just as good as a relaxer.

She'll love it but don't give her the window seat for a starter. LOL

Good news on the car rental if you're not sure of weather.

Best thing I can say is ' ENJOY '

Thanks for the info.Sarge69, my wife is always two steps ahead of me, she has already spoken to her doctor and she told me to besure that she doesn't have the window seat. I
wonder if she knew I was going to ask her to drive if we
were to rent a car. Just a though.

Another suggestion-- since it's your wife's first flight, try to sit in the mid-section of the airplane, over or just slightly aft of the wing. Some airplanes will "wag" their tail slightly in bumps and sitting over the wing (near the center of gravity) will smooth out that ride a bit.

I'm an airline pilot based in Houston (and I grew up in the Seattle area). I'd be happy to answer any questions you or your wife might have. What airline are you flying up on?

I wish I could find find enough words to thank all you guys
for the help you are giving my wife and I. I will be e-mailing
Mr. Jack's daughter, Melinda this morning, and as far as our
flight, we will be leaving LAF air port on a DELTA flight on
DEC.1. We are going to stay with our grand-daughter, on
the Lewis McChord air base. She will be having her baby
boy( I wrote a forum a few weeks back, asking for prayers,
the baby has problems with the sizes and parts of his little
heart) She and her husband doesn't have any family members
any where's near by. Which is why we are flying to Seattle.
AGAIN I can't thank either of you enough for your help'
Please have a bless day, Thanks LarryR

Larry, It's a piece of cake. First of all they hardly ever get snow. Secondly it is all first class Highway from Seatac to McCord-Lewis. From your rental car pickup follow the signs to Highway 518 - I-5 South. Stay on I-5 and exit #123 for McChord or 120 for Ft. Lewis. 35 miles on Interstate 5. One caveat: I-5 is very busy during commute hours. Particularly if you are southbound on Friday or Northbound on Monday. Best wishes for the baby's heart. They have super great medical capabilities in the Seattle area.

When ever my Wife and I fly any where she always wants to board the plane and turn left (First class). Of course I always make her sit at the back because it's safer....... Have you ever heard of a plane flying backwards into a mountain....?????
But seriously good luck..!

You've got good directions for the airporter and rental car so I won't elaborate on those. Seattle weather in early December will be rainy and dreary!!!!! The chance for snow is less than 1%. Sorry its not a nice time of year to travel here. Hope you have a good trip. If you have other questions, please PM me.

There is an airport shuttle that will get you to jblm-google airport shuttles/seatac and see what you get. As far as snow and ice, you probably won't see any of that around here any time soon! Mostly overcast and drizzle!

Enjoy the ferry ride across the sound. Expect rain (they get more rain than Oregon does). Tempertures could be in 30's to 40's, however, December is a bit early for snow, may get some slick places in the morning until it warms up. Weather proof your camera if you plan to shoot outside.
