Forest Walk Infrared Photos

I have an old Fuji X100S that was converted to full spectrum IR. These are my first photos with it. I was walking a trail in Coopers Rock State Forest in WV, and came across a small dam with a reflective pond and some vines attempting to grow on a boulder. I ran the Raw files though Silver Efex Pro using the Fuji Acros film simulation. Since I was using the film simulation, I finished them with an old photograph edge look. The download view will tell you if the edge was too much.

I like the flower pattern and think that the hard edge looks good on it. Only thing I wonder about is are all the hard edge choices the same shape? They would need to vary in a series of pictures to look less artificial.
I'm not taken by the dam picture or the border, but I simply react to artistic pictures, like or not.
I had a Panasonic G6 converted to regular IR because it is small and easy to use. Since it all is hit or miss to me I let the camera do the work with jpgs, then play with the buttons in Photoshop. Boris

Yes, there were several edges and they were each adjustable. I've never used an edge before but I have never processed an IR photo before these two.

Someday I would like to try ir, but my pp skills are barely above nonexistent. For your first efforts I think they’re acceptable. My only suggestions are about composition. In the first one did you consider showing less of the forest by cropping a bit above the dam and maybe some on the right. In the second I feel the lower right quarter has the most interest showing the leaves against the tree, while the large mass of leaves seems to lose details I would like to see. Again, nicely done for a first attempt. KEEP SHOOTING!

Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. I have to learn the IR camera operation a bit more. I had trouble composing as a result of the red cast in the view finder and live view. Nonetheless, I could have cropped a bit better of a scene.

Is your viewfinder red because the camera has a full spectrum IR conversion? My regular IR conversion was bright red, but the camera came back with instructions for shooting a frame full of green grass, and using that for my white balance. That was saved into my camera as a preset so I can shoot the red or select the preset to view and shoot the brown/white conversion. As I recall I could vary the tones by shooting a different patch of grass, but I have stuck with a color I like since I do not use the camera very often. Boris

Yes, full spectrum. Boris, I’m going to try your suggestion for the green grass white balance. It makes sense that it should work. I’ll send you a message afterwards. Thanks for the suggestion.
