If they want to sell their software? Yes.

The general answer is yes, but it may depend on the camera model. Not all NEF files are the same.

Yes to that, but no one on their support team will answer the direct question.

Thank you. The table further reduces it to lens and manufacturer.

If you want the best RAW data editor download the free Studio NX from Nikon. This is most important if you print your files.
This new software is not very complicated to learn and there are great tutorials on line. Just the day before yesterday I posted a link to an excellent one that will teach you how to use the editor.

Studio NX was designed by Nikon for its NEF data. This software is capable of revealing all details and beautiful colors a Nikon camera can produce. I use it, like many others, for my NEF data.

PureRAW is not intended as a replacement for other post-processing software. It is used as a front end to create clean DNG files from raw files using DXO's technology including DeepPRIME, the best noise reduction algorithm currently available.

Unless studio NX works with linear DNG files as input the OP will not be able to use it with output from PureRAW. If it does accept DNG files it may work well with PureRaw.

Sounds as if their support team is not very knowledgeable. So how well would they answer questions about the other aspects of their software?

The fact that the OP was unable to find out the information he needed does not in any way mean the support team is not very knowledgeable. We don't know who he attempted to contact, if they responded, and if they did respond, what they may have told him. While DXO needs to do a better job making information more easily available to users, the details the OP was looking for is documented in their camera database. I provided a link to that database in an earlier post.

True, the OP doesn't state whom he contacted, only that "no one on their support team will answer the direct question."

Sounds like the DxO website has the information but you have to dig for it. And the (real) support team should definitely be easy to contact, and would have that information available.

So maybe the failings are in DxO and/or their website?

Thanks to all and yes DxO makes it difficult when a simple yes or no would suffice. I had NX on my old PC and I might revisit it, can't beat the price. I want the best possible software can do with my lifetime of personal photos.

Studio NX does not recognize DNG files, as a matter of fact none of the Nikon editors do. I could be a little bit ignorant on this but not having much experience with DNG files I do not know why to convert RAW data to that type of file. If working with RAW data the only RAW editor that will faithfully reproduce details and colors in NEF data is proprietary Nikon software. For someone posting images on line ANY editor will do but for prints I will not trust any other editor except Studio NX.
