Neither. If you shoot CANON, get the CANON 100-400 II, if you shoot Nikon, get the Nikon 200-500, if u shoot Sony, get either the Sony 100-400 or the 200-600.
Good luck in your search for excellent IQ
I am in full agreement with Billnikon. If you intend to use the lens for wildlife your choice if you are using Nikon is the 200-500 or if Canon the Canon equivalent and I say the same for Sony
Independent lenses are good companies and a majority of their lenses have excellent quality but the problem is they are manufacturing lenses to adapt to bodies not manufactured by them. With independent lenses precise tolerances are not always possible. A camera manufacturer makes lenses for the cameras they make and tolerances are precise besides their better quality control. It is always very possible that with new cameras and new technologies independent lenses will not fit the new technologies from camera manufacturers rendering the lens useless.
In regard to sharpness I never used a lens that failed to do its part when I did mine. All modern lenses have excellent technologies and they are sharp.

I have the Sigma 100-400 Cont. When I’m doing casual walk around shooting, it mounted to my 7d2 is a favorite combination and performs nicely. Only you can answer the question of whether the Canon 100-400 ii is worth an extra $1000+ or not.

I'm curious as to why a lens made by other than the body maker cannot have precise tolerances. That's a question of manufacturing skill, not the camera body. An outside maker might even be more precise, in theory anyway.
I've always been happy with my Tamron lenes
If you shoot Nikons the AFP 70-300s shine in image quality. The DX one is light and cheap. I have FX one also.
You should state the camera you intend to use the lens on.
I have gone to Z6 and Z50. Because of the need to add the FTZ I don’t use the 70-300s much. I use the 24-200 on the Z6 and the 50-250 on the Z50. The Z50 combo is light and has excellent image quality. I now rarely haul out the 200-500.
