Other than when nesting, I don't think I have ever seen a great blue heron sitting down. I found this one this morning sitting on the banks of the wetlands - I thought maybe he was injured, especially since there was a loose feather on the ground next to him. As I watched him, he got up and walked away, and then let out a loud croak and flew away...
