My opinion.

I'll stick to my conjecture. If a guy were to allow his wife to do that he'd be called a cuckold. Perheps she felt like one for far too long.

That's exactly what it is - "conjecture".

Knowing what it takes to make a marriage work, Mark, faithfulness is one of the most important. Not that straying can't be forgiven and worked through, but there need to be a desire for forgiveness. Don't see that here. I don't see how a marriage could survive under this kind of "understanding." She stayed until the kids were grown for their sake, but at that time she had the wherewithal to live on her own, so why stay?

Just curious. What is your source(s).
Thanks,

I was sorry to see that Bill and Melinda Gates are divorcing after twenty-seven years of marriage. I wonder if they argued over money.

Actually I believe it is a tactic to avoid taxes on a settlement. They are both in on it.

Both love and hate are emotions that a couple can deal with. At least when one person hates another they are thinking about them and it is possible that they could mend their differences.

However 'Indifference' is the killer of relationships. When one believes that the other person doesn't care if they live or die then all is typically lost.

News now comes out that when they married there was an agreement that he could spend one weekend a year with his ex-girlfriend. My guess? That destroyed the marriage and she stuck around until the youngest child became 18. Why she ever agreed to it I have no idea. Why the ex ever agreed to it I have no idea. What a shmuck.

The story about that was reported in 1997, three years after they married. From the description is sound platonic -- just a weekend in the country. There's no evidence that it continued beyond 1997, and even if it did, there's nothing to suggest that Melinda & the kids didn't come along.

I'm not familiar with divorce laws, but, as I understand it, she gets half of what he earned *during the marriage*. But his fortune comes from his stock in Microsoft, all of which he had before they married. (As opposed to Jeff Bezos, who was already married when he founded Amazon, and was supported by her in the early years)

I suspect they will examine carefully the Bezos split as a model of how the wealthy can separate.

Might be a connection problem requireing a re-boot. Then again perhaps she greeted a neighbor "Hey MAC" and he got jealous.
