Refugio lagoon, with horned grebe and surf scoter

It’s a small lagoon, leading to the beach at Refugio State Beach. A horned grebe in breeding plumage has stopped by, intriguing the local birders. A surf scoter has joined him. I’m always fascinated by the red eyes of grebes and this guy doesn’t disappoint. All shot with the Sony RX10 IV, handheld, trying to follow them down the channel before diving for food.

Excellent set. Used to go to Refugio during summertime for a week on a family camp out with the Boy Scouts. Sure had a lot of fun. Since my youth I've only been back once. Have many fond memories from there. Mahalo for sharing.
