While wandering about downtown Thomasville, Ga., I discovered an unusual but very neat little park. Apparently a building had been demolished. Rather than build on the now vacant lot, Thomasville converted it into a park. It is called The Unvacant Lot.

There are picnic tables, comfortable chairs and shade sails - all the amenities for a comfortable rest in the park. In addition, the Thomasville Center for the Arts provides rotating art displays in the space. During our visit, there were sections of three different arts exhibits sharing the space. The last shot explains the details and credits the artists.

How absolutely wonderful and charming! We could use more of these "feel good" stories of towns and their positive actions. Thanks Carol!

I was quite taken with it. Thomasville is very user friendly. You see a lot of people wandering the shops with kids and pets. It is a welcoming place.

The town I lived in before moving here did that where a building was torn down too and everyone loves it. This is so sweet and the pictures are fantastic!

Very enjoyable. I have seen similar in various small towns in the West - often sponsored by an Art group, Chamber of Commerce or other Civic organization.

That's what I thought, Karin. I was tickled when I found it and understood what it was.

Thank you, Ken! They also sponsor a quail hunt. There are a number of small brass quail hiding all around town. You can pick up a map with clues. You don’t take the quail - just mark a score sheet showing you found them. I haven’t done it yet but one of these days
