Excellent images!
Madera Canyon can be difficult to get the right exposure with ever changing shade and sun. Being in Sierra Vista there is no quick way to get to Madera Canyon. Either head S through Nogales and then N or N to Tucson and then S. Either way is about a 90 minute trip each way. Beautiful area and great hiking. Lots of reports of migratory birds there now.

When I was there recently the acorn woodpeckers seemed to be the nuisance birds scaring away the smaller birds from their feeders.

Dennis,
Yes.....they and the Mexican Jays do tend to scare away the smaller birds frequently. But they often get into a row with each other.
I just hadn't seen the Grosbeaks and Hepatics fight before. The Tanagers usually fly away right away.

Thank you....with the mountains, I bet it's not easy to get there from your area. But it's a beautiful area.

Thanks John,
No they are a male black-headed Grosbeak and a male Hepatic Tanager. I don't believe they are exchanging food.
I believe they are fighting each other.

it was a very windy day at Madera Canyon Sunday morning, which cut down on some of the hummingbird and small bird flights.

But, their was banter between the Mexican jays and Acorn Woodpeckers; and between the Black-headed Grosbeak and the male Hepatic Tanager. This was a 5 shot sequence, before the Grosbeak flew away.

Note: I shrunk these to 85% to make them smaller for posting, but the colors look pale.

Hope you enjoy these

Stupendous shots ✨✨✨✨✨🖤
