This is a focus stacked image of a dearly departed Crane Fly that I found laying behind the TV when I was putting a cable on it today. They are very, very fragile and even more so when they have passed away some time ago. They have a very short lifespan on a mission to mate and then pass away and they are often thought to be large mosquitoes by some which they are not.

Thanks, I suspect that it is due to the play of the color of the LED lighting and diffusion that creates the hint of blue. LED's are notoriously known to be quite cool blue.

Thanks, Quixdraw. I find several my specimens deceased for they get in the house and they don't get out. From time to time there are ones that are still in good shape.

Thanks, I just caught two live ones tonight so I'll be able to pose some fresh specimens tomorrow.

Thanks, UTMike. I use multiple LED lights and their color is a bit "cool" so the black of the eyes picks up a bit of that color cast as it is diffused.

Great shot as usual. If these things were mosquitoes I'd never go outside in the summertime without insect repellant.
