Canyon Lake Osprey

Most of these photos were taken yesterday at our local park lake. I have been monitoring their activity since the Osprey returned from migration so I know them individually. Since I watched them mate I know which is which. The necklace is not necessarily an indication of sex as it can be visible in either male or female. The more reliable means of telling the sexes apart is that the female is normally about 1/3 larger than the male. It is interesting however, that the newly found nest pair exhibit similar markings as the local pair.

Super photos. So if I understand correctly on the last photo, the one of the new nest, the bird on the left is the female and the the one on the right is the male?

Thanks for the response! The “necklace” is not a reliable indication of sex in that it may be present in either/both sexes. I’ll have to observe this new pair to see if I can determine.
