Heck Jerry! I am well over 60 and cant remember where my camera bag is! J/k. Best exercise for my mind is my younger wife making me chase her around for my Geritol and a Grandson who asks incessant questions. Don't retire too early, and have a purpose after you do retire.

Naw retire early, I was 50 my husband 55, don't know how we ever had the time to work; until this pandemic there weren't enough hours to the day

My theory for good brain and physical conditioning is simply NOT to retire. So I didn't! I'm 77 and I still work every day as a commercial photographer. Running a business has a good mixture of creativity, nice clients and aggravating ones, good suppliers and not so good ones, paperwork, taxes and bill to pay, promotions to do, problems and problem solving and some problems that can't be solved are also stimulating, going home- listening to my lovely wife complain that I am insane for still working- but she runs the office anyway. I also get to look after the cat's litterbox and take out the garbage- all in a day's work!

I'm gonna work 'till I'm dead and don't forget to leave space in the coffin for my gear- I'm takin' it with me!

My theory for good brain and physical conditioning... (show quote)

No one on their deathbed ever said “I should have spent more time at the office.”

But you may be the first. My condolences. Photography for fun is a whole lot different.

...I second the motion! I'm still carpentering and building things, and then I get home and work on the art stuff and/or play my tuba...or trombone...or learn trumpet! Photography is a necessary part of the mix...I don't sit around and drum my fingers much, that's for sure.

Jerry it is not a medical deduction but a brain induction.Very funny.
My short term memory is kaput. But 90% of recall and after a few seconds
I think I am ok. And I can drive my SUV safely and well.
As for your camera's good mental exercise.

Since I mentioned here that I had bought Fuji gear and sold most of Sony.s
The fuji's are different and a learning curve. To their credit they have more friendly
information in their magazine, emails etc. Working with menu's and youtubes
and great write-ups by their mentors.

Good luck and don't let the camera's bang into each other.

Some of us here are over fifty, and there's a rumor going around that people over a certain age have to "exercise" their brains to keep them working properly. I think I've stumbled on a pretty good way of doing that.

I know that most of us have different brands of cameras, and they all have different Menus and controls. I like to switch between Nikon, Sony, and Fuji to mix things up and remember how to use them. Bringing all three with me in the car and driving somewhere to shoot is a fun way to not only use different cameras, but also to exercise my brain - remembering how to use the different controls and Menus.

I wonder if such travel could be considered a medical deduction.

But I've been told by many here that even handling different brands of cameras than mine can be dangerous, although less so than handling a DSLR.

Just memorize the Sony menu.

AARP has some really good programs to keep you sharp and they are a whole lot of fun as well. I also so had some dexterity problems and my DR. recommended magic ( basic slight of hand and card handling) it helped and has really been fun.

I BELIEVE JUST BEING OVER 80- EVERYTHING SHOULD BE A MEDICAL DEDUCTION. LOL
