Black Rapid - It lets me carry the camera at my hip and not be banging in front of me. Even with a 100-400 lens and 1.4X extender.
I have a RRS plate on the bottom of my camera. I use a RRS quick disconnect to connect to the RRS plate. I worried about the security of the quick disconnect - but have used it for years without an issue. The only problem is that I had to cut the Back Rapid Strap - and resew it to add the RRS quick disconnect - but well worth it.

Reguarding mounting a camera & long lens. You never mount the tripod or mono on the camera, always 2 the lens as you'll ruin the camera. That's a lot of weight.

IF you can afford a NIKON--you can afford any strap on the market!!!

For a while at least. I just pulled the trigger and bought a Nikkor 200-500 direct from Nikon. I will need a shoulder strap. The lens will be mounted on a D7200. Suggestions for a reasonably priced strap would be appreciated.

My favorite to date are the Black Rapid straps. Coupling with the Fusion Plate Mark II that they also sell, provides the added convenience of not having to remove the ring from the camera or lens when I need to shift to a tripod. I have carried around a 5DIV with a 150-600, sometimes with a teleconverter, and have found it very comfortable and convenient. I love their locking slides that hold the camera in place while walking thus minimizing the back and forth swinging that occurs with my stride.

You will get a number of suggestions/recommendations. Here's mine: Peak Design Sling Strap. I like the way it connects to the camera and I like how easy it is to adjust. It can be worn around the neck or across either shoulder. Very versatile and reasonably comfortable.

Yup! I have a PD on every camera and set of binoculars I own. Very easy to install and adjust length. (BTW, I really like the PD tripod.).

I would recommend getting a strap (shoulder strap preferably) that will attach to the lens. That’s a lot of weight hanging off the camera (support the lens not the camera) which can cause mounting hardware (screws) to loosen over time if you plan on lugging it around. I use a JOBY and it works very well.

Look at the cotton line, they have many options. I just ordered a bunch of stuff from them, very well made

Cotton has great option for carrying heavy camera w/big lens. Keeps camera secure with easy access. If you’re doing any climbing, etc., best way to have camera close to body but ready to shoot.

I agree, a shoulder strap is a great addition to a 200-500. Also, the foot on this lens is not very good and the collar is even worse; therefore, I would recommend replacing the Nikon lens foot and collar with Really Right Stuff LC-A14 collar and the LCF-12 foot. The reason I suggest this combination is that the LCF-12 foot has a QD (quick detach) socket that allows you to connect an AR-15 rifle sling to the foot. Also, if you use an L-plate, both RRS and pro-media gear have QD sockets in their L-plates allowing you to quickly change the sling from the camera to the lens. I also have an RRS foot on my 70 to 200 zoom and I have added QD sockets to my tripod. The QD sling detaches at the press of a button, but is secure. I've been using it for years and love it.

You can also find these slings at any Cabela's store in the gun section.

I use one of these to mount a long arca swiss plate(I think Benro) on the tripod foot on the Nikon 200-500 with the Peak Design anchor system. 2 of the round connectors to the hinged D ring with a small spring loaded caribiner that connects to the other part of the anchor kit on my Nikon strap. Just unclip the caribiner from thr D-Ring & camera strap & the lens is ready for the tripod & the strap for the camera.

As long as we are digressing from the OP, since the OEM tripod collar is severely compromised, I recommend using a stabilizing bracket with this lens - https://www.ebay.com/itm/283448072618?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l9372
Also acts as a carry handle.....

I use something like this. Mine attaches similarly onto the tripod mount arca slots...very secure. I do not remember where I purchased mine and there isn't a logo imprinted on my handle. It's very comfortable in the hand.
I have found this to be a much better solution than a strap for my heavy lenses. Especially if I have my backpack with me.
The backpack tends to inhibit a strap.

I use a peak design with both d850 and d500 with the 200-500mm lens. I carry the lens by the footplate which I replaced with a longer foot (Kirk) and never let the lens dangle. The peak design could hold it but I’m short and in addition the lens is heavy. Best to have your hand on it. Almost always hand hold for BIF.
Enjoy your new purchase...it’s a wonderful lens.
