I was showing my pictures of Mesa Arch to some people the other day with the comment that this site was required in the official rulebook for all photographers. Just kidding, of course, but it is a wondrous opportunity. You did a splendid job. As you have seen, the red glow under the arch lasts well past daybreak, and you can get great pictures without all the other shooters in the way.
I originally did not intend to go to Mesa Arch. My intent was to drive down to the White Rim Trail which I had wanted to do since 1977 but something always interfered, either maintenance on Shafter Trail or snow or rain. I had gone to Mesa Arch at daybreak in 1977 or 1978 and took a whole roll of Kodachrome. Unfortunately, when I moved from Gallup, NM in 1979 several boxes were lost by the moving company and these slides were in one of them. Also, unfortunately, I had not printed a single one. Antelope Canyon slides were also in there. I have not returned to Antelope Canyon.
I did not realize going later in the day would work. I was very surprised and pleased.
