coolhandluke,

What I dislike about YouTube is the randomness. It is excellent for looking up specific procedures. But, if trying to learn a program from scratch, the teaching and learning principles in a structured class have great value!

There are channels that some have established - less random and easier to navigate.

I want to learn how to edit photos with PS or other editing programs , but at 76 and not being the sharpest knife in the draw , I need someone to show me how to do it , or get a simple editing program that’s not difficult..
I at the moment use the simple apple editing program but I want something more. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi. There are many programs available that will do a good job at photo editing, including the Adobe products and Luminar and a host of others. I don't think that starting with Photoshop is the best idea. A really nice program that is free and available on the web is PhotoScapeX: I've included a link below. There is a paid version but you most likely will not need that. You can experiment with this program, gain confidence and knowledge, and then move on from there if need be after you have researched other software. Good editing skills take time to hone so be patient. http://x.photoscape.org.

Do you have favorites? There are so many channels. There ought to be a few good 30 minute videos that show a basic "This is How Photoshop Works".

Adobe themselves have been packing tutorials inside Photoshop and other apps. There are some very basic, beginner tutorials on the opening screen. Some are "in app" where, to proceed, you have to actually do the steps.

Kelby One offers lots of step by step classes on-line. Not sure how much it costs for memberships anymore.
Youtube is also a good source for free.

Kelbyone runs about $150 per year. But, it offers more than PS & LR. You have access to instructional videos for other aspects of photography. You also get access to the Kelbyone forum where you can post your photos and ask for help.

I did it for a year, but didn’t use it enough to justify the money spent. If I was to sign up again, I would make sure I schedule some time each week to view a course and work on the skills learned.

My standard responses...
You tube. Look for beginner tutorials, do them and go from there. Free.
Manufacturers also usually have tutorials available. Adobe and Affinity have some good ones..
Practice. Study. Work. I can talk all day, you can read all night-
but if you ain't at the keys nothing will make you a piano player.
Got a camera? Go outside. Take a lot of photos. A lot.
Now fix them.
Day > dusk > night > dawn > day again.
Take 1 photo, make 5 copies. Fix them differently= 1contrasty, 1 vivid, 1 sharpen. etc. HDR them.
Practice. Try stuff out.
There is nobody here that said they know everything about anything. There's always something.
