Is a TAMRON 18-270 lens a good buy to use on my Nikon D3100?

I have seen some very nice work done with using this lens.

Why not go into your local camera store that carrys tamron products and test one out with your camera. Go home and view on your monitor and see how you like the results.

I have been using the 18-270 with my Nikon's, D90 and Nikon D7000...this lens works very well...make sure the lens attaches to the Nikon DSLR cameras.
You can think of the Tamron 18-270 as an almost perfect all in one camera lens. I use my 18-270 in the field and I am most pleased.
HOWEVER there is one slight problem the zoom will creep on you if you have set the zoom, let's say at 100MM and you have your camera pointed straight down. The weight of the lens elements makes the zoom part of the lens move slightly forward beyond the previously set 100MM.
Frankly, I don't find this to be a problem of any concern.

If you're going to buy a new Tameron get the 18-270 with the PIZ motor in the lens. The D3100 does not have a stablization mechanism in the body so you need a lens with the motor to utilize the vibration reduction. I have this lens and love it---had the Nikon 18-200 and traded it in for this Tameron. Nikon had way too much lens slide which after 9 months has not occured on the Tameron. The Tameron is the same speed as the Nikon and gives you a wider range. I do all my shopping at National Camera in Mn. and they have a 30 day return policy. Buy what you want, use it for 30 days and if you don't like it bring it back and try something different. They have a number of stores here in Mn but also have a website---best service I've found around.....

A tiny piece of cardboard slid into your lens for that particular shot will solve this problem. Have not had this happen to mine yet but have been told it will eventually happen to all large zooms. My Nikon did it right out of the box..........
