My lawyer sent me a pdf of my will so I could make changes. Downloaded 7 day free trial Adobe Acrobat Pro, 14.95/month. Converted the will to MS Word, was a bit jumbled, decided to forget changes. Uninstalled the Adobe software. Now they want $14.95/m for the next year. "How to cancel account or free trial" shows how to cancel/change an account but that doesn't match what comes up when I select "Manage Account'" there is no option to cancel or change. Meanwhile I have cancelled automatic payments to Adobe, I'm NOT going to pay them 12x14.95 to convert my will to a jumbled word document. Can't find a "contact Us" link. Anyone know a way out of this mess. Guess before the 7 days ran I should have accessed my account and the cancel option would have been there, now methinks that option will only appear after I pay them 12x14.95!

I am not familiar with this program but many programs for things like accounting or tax prep update the software each year and want you to purchase a new version. You may find that it is not a monthly fee but an annual fee.

It is listed as an annual fee collected monthly.

What version of Word do you have. I have Office 2019 and open PDFs. Very few problems doing so.

First call credit card and cancel any payments. I had a problem with Adobe many years ago and I threatened to blast them on all social media They called me within the hour to fix the problem

I have found Open Office to be a very adequate and appropriate word processing program. It is free from Apache and upgrades are free also. I've been using it for several years without problems. Many MS documents can be converted with it.

I've seen this sort of thing before, where the instructions to cancel do not match what you see online. One cannot but help to think it suspicious.
It is common for these conversion programs to garble the text a bit, though.

That's why I never give my CC info for a free trial. It can be impossible to cancel, and I bet that's not a coincidence.

If someone hasn't already told you, there's a free Adobe product - Adobe Reader - for PDFs.

I found that you can create, edit, and save PDF files with LibreOffice Writer. It is a Word Processor that is part of a good Office Suite which is free and Open Source, and it is updated frequently. Their Spreadsheet it terrific as is their database module and Presentation module. More than you get with the exorbitant Microsoft Office.

Terrible experience with Adobe! I feel for you. I'm sorry I can't help you with your current problem. I personally will not use any Adobe product. They are just about making money for themselves, and some tech sites just call them scum. Their products are expensive, bloated, and not as good as even some freeware. And worse, they do not support their products. They leave that up to users in blogs and help sites & such. I purchased Photoshop Elements over a year ago ($120), and as yet, have not been able to use it or get help with it. Spent countless hours with no help. Waste of money, and as far as I am concerned, fraud, because there is no way to get my money back.

As for PDF files, Adobe's PDF viewer is just that, a viewer. There are lots of viewers and editors available in the freeware world, must smaller, lighter, and more effective.

I would be glad to point you in the direction of legally free and easily available software for just about any purpose, if you like. Even show how to use Writer.

My email is gerome@photographer.net

If not, I wish you the best. And please, avoid Adobe like the pandemic.

I can create them with WordPerfect, but I can't edit in that. If you want an outstanding PDF program, I can recommend Nitro Pro. I paid $137 for it, but I do a lot with PDF, so I could justify the cost. You can add graphics, make it add page numbers, etc.

I hate to see so many companies going for the renting option. I looked at a program a few days ago, and it was appealing, but I would have to pay over $100 a year just to use it. I've blanked the name from my mind.

if you're not thoroughly sick of Adobe, find an older version, usually pretty cheap, and use the OCR function (Recognize Text) to render the pdf into copyable text. I rooted around on the net a few years ago and found Acrobat v. 10, which I've used with no real problems.
