A must see in Washington.
I was there several years ago; we had just been told that no pictures were allowed.Yet, some "gentleman" was going to get a picture anyway. I waited a few seconds, then leaned to the left. I have always wondered how he liked his picture of the back of my head!!! ;-) .
Good one! From that you can tell that the sergeant is a member of the Third Infantry honor guard, airborne qualified, has not seen combat and has received the good conduct medal.

Very emotional image you captured! How focus they must be all the time.
It's extremely impressive!
I've so much respect for those guards!
IF I recall--you are told that NO PICTURES are allowed during that ceremony.
Thanks to all for comments. I asked for and received permission to take pictures. Thanks to all of you who served.
I photographed it from a distance when we were there. I don't recall anyone saying photos were not OK. It is a very impressive ritual to watch. They execute it with great precision.
I believe that the medal of a rifle on a blue field indicates combat veteran. Look again.
When did they institute a no photo rule? It's been about ten years since I've been to there (Tomb, not ANS itself) but before that as long as you stayed behind the rope and were respectful you were allowed. In fact I was "caught" in the background photographing VP Cheney Veterans Day (maybe '11). It was on the old website before they revamped it.

Dan, that is the Expert Infantry badge. You are thinking about the Combat Infantry Badge.
They differ only that the CIB has a surrounding wreath.
Ken
I agree! Most impressive!
Love the closeup and the facial expressions.
