Discovered that I could use my old 4000AF Flash purchased in 1985 for my Minolta Maxxum 7000 with my Nikon D-5000.

tinkering around this afternoon with the D-5000 and 4000AF combination and snapped this informal photo of my beautiful bride of over fifty years.

A blessed man I am!!!

50 years. That is nice. 40 years. she no longer wants to kill you. I have been married for only 10 years and she already wants to trade me in. She also keeps upping the life insurance on me. What's up with that?

Thanks Tom for the kind words! They are changing slowly. But we had some heavy frost over the weekend, so I don't know what that will do. Frost stops the color change. My one Maple is very pretty right now and some from them back in the wood line are a beautiful golden color. I got out last night and played with the milkweed and also took a few shots of the trees too. Got the milkweeds posted but ran out of steam on the rest.:) I will post them today some time. Janny and I are going to take some time off next week and go to southern Ohio to drive around. Might take the camper and stay a few nights some where. We just like to get in the truck and wander around the back roads.
I hope the weather is nice for you. NC is a beautiful state. I will be waiting to see some awesome shots.:)
Well better get moving. Have a safe trip!! And mostly, have a fun one.

Nice photo. Congratulations on the 50 years!

I don't know about that particular flash, but while some of the older flashes may work on the newer cameras, they are often too strong and may cause damage to the camera. Be sure to check it out to see if yours are actually compatible.

Good Morning,

Thank You for the comment.

Yes, I have checked it out, and used the 4000af on the Nikon D5000.

It will trigger the flash and not fry anything, of course, no other functions it'll, zoom, etc.

The Nikon hotshot will handle 250 volts, the 4000af has a trigger voltage of about 3 volts.

I don't really use it mounted on the camera, but more in a slave mode.

I purchased the devices required to trigger it and my speed lite remotely, thus giving me many options for lighting.

I am still a newbie, had the D5000 about a year, still lots to learn.

Thank you for your comment and word of caution, I have learned so much on the uhh, good people, excellent photgraphers

Always wiling to comment and help those of us trying to learn.

Blessings,

Tom

Hey John,

I got the beautiful and wonderful Photo's.

You have a very beautiful and handsome family that is wonderful.

Those Grandchildren are beautiful, I love the one with the child holding the twins....that is a very neat composition and the type family photos that I love and cherish.

I can see the twins are growing fast too.

Sure as you have aged time seems to just speed up on us....

We always wanted a granddaughter but it was not to be. Our two sons have no children and our daughter has the three grandson's whom we adore of course.

We married in March 62, in March 64 Sandy gave birth to Dave our first, in 64 our second Steve....then in May 71 Kelli was born. As, your recall in those days sex of a child was not known until birth...to say the least we were on edge praying we would first have a healthy baby and second a girl. I will never forget that 4:30am in the Miami Hospital when we all saw our baby girl....Sandy and I both cried tears of joy...All our kids have been blessings....and our daughter Kelli is certainly a blessing...she has never been a problem...always got great grades...helped my wallet with College Academia Scholarships....She is now a Teacher...Teaches 6th Grade Reading Programs and holds some kind of a Special Position where she is in charge of and mentor's other reading Teacher's in our local School System.

There, I go rambling again...

I love the Photos, You should post some of them on the Hog especially the granddaughter holding the twins...

Send more as you have time.

Hope you can get your iPad email going with attachments..

I found the battery for my Cell Phone...I ran out to get...I bought a 3200mah larger battery the stock phone battery with all my widgets would not hold a charge all day...duh..

Hope you are having a great day, We are in the 90's again..a little breeze so was not bad out...Guess if I got some energy and went for a walk the ole humidity would tell me it is hot..haha

Thanks again for the photos. I see your a blessed man as I...

Blessings,

tom

Hey John, br br I got the beautiful and wonderful... (show quote)

Thanks for your kind words about my family, Tom. We're both blessed and surrounded by those we love. I appreciate your encouragement to post but not ready yet. My photography for the last 40 years has been primarily candid snapshots. I focused on capturing the event with ver little attention paid to creativity, composition, lighting, etc.

I've been working to upgrade my photography skills since I retired. I must say that my first two weeks on the UHH have already taught me a great deal. Looking back, I can now recognize the light behind my grandchildren is blown out and the background in the family shot is cluttered. Now I'm working on seeing these things before I take the shot. It's fun learning new things.
