It was a happy-sad day here today. Just thought I'd share what happened.
Some of our horses are broodmares, here for the sole purpose of raising foals. Of course we have our stallion too. But besides raising them we have 2 riding horses (a lot easier than when we had 77 horses total)
I still ride, but hubby quit when he had a bad injury to one foot. (NO a horse didn't cause it)
I don't have time to ride both horses, so today we changed "have" two to ride, to, "HAD" two to ride.
We donated one of my nice geldings to the Nashille Metro Mounted Police Department. The reason is that he is one of the best horses we have ever raised and it's super hard to find a good home for a horse anymore. He will have a good home, the best vet care, a REAL job to do (he'll love the job) and I get to go see him any time I wish. They have a "visitors welcome" policy any day of the week.
When they came to look and see if he fit all their needs, they were pleased with what they saw and how he reacted to all their little tests. He has a 60 day trial and if he doesn't work out for them for any reason, they bring him back to me.
I do not expect him to come back. He's a good boy!!!
You can tell they're related, they both have the same color feet!
That's a hard one to take. But you know that he is going to have a good home and be well taken care of. That helps, a little.
I had to get the shot in before someone beat me to it. Now I can comment on the photo. That is one magnificent horse and photo. I can all ready see his badge pinned on.

Wow Jo, that had to be hard to do. But what a nice place for him to be. He will get to roam around and get petted by many. They got an awesome gift. If I only lived closer, I would fight them for him.:)

Thanks tramsey, he is an unbelievably good boy. We had 77 horses at one time, mostly broodmares and foals, but of all the foals we have raised, he has been the sweetest

Erv, I'd have been happy for you to have him. I'd have known he'd have a good home and good care with you and Janny. I think he is the same kind of horse that you have in Sammy as a dog...a buddy!

Thank you Marilyn. I take comfort in knowing he will have the best vet care, farrier care, feed and hadling a horse can have. Metro is really good to their horses.

And he will have a job, which is the best part.
Hes a beautiful horse, is he out of your
Stallion?

Yes, he is by our stallion. Our stallion has the same sweet temperament. Even though he has produced many foals, he never has a desire to fight another horse.
Wow! That was a very generous thing you did, and what a beautiful horse! Cheers.

Thank you. I admit it took a long time to think about it before it happened.

He is a stunningly beautiful boy. You are indeed a very talented and beautiful lady. I wish I had just a little of your energy. That was a very generous gift .
Good for you Jo. You did a good thing for all involved. Metro got a fine mount, the horse got a good home, and more importantly, a job. Everyone wins.

Thank Skeezit. I just had to know he was going to a place that would take good care of him and the bonus was the honor of raising a horse that could be of service to a good cause.
