This lil' critter is about 1" long. At first I thought it was a small chip of wood stuck to the siding of our house. Never saw one of these ever in my 74 years. Gotta love Florida.
Could that be a Codling Moth?
I've never seen one but it sure does look like a stick. I've got two shots of insects that are well camouflaged blending in with their background. Nature is amazing.
Incredibly unusual bug. I have an entomologist friend who has spent 75 years in that capacity in Florida. He has never seen one of these, nor can he ID it. His best guess is it's a bug encrusted with fungus. You might try sending to U of Fl entomology department for a ID.
Now that is evolution at its best.
Thanks for looking everyone. I think it's a toss up between a Codling or Buff Tipped moth. And joecichjr, I thought the same thing at first...a piece of birch branch.
