Tether the camera so you can focus and shoot standing with a tablet computer. I thought I'd be joking if I suggested you also use a remote-controlled gimbal, but then I discovered they are available.
I have thought of both . But I find I don't really enjoy computer games.
Looks good. I'm guessing your pistol grip makes more cummfy to shoot laying down & is used with shutter focus, yes/no?.

Or Repurposed Fry Pan
My tripod has a center post. This makes shooting near ground level all but impossible off the tripod. Lately I have been trying some shots from ground level when the subject warrants it. We are going to Cape Cod in 9 days and I wanted a better way then hand held to shoot close to ground level off of the beach or in my daughters yard at the wild turkeys.
A few weeks back we upgraded the kitchen cook ware. I scavenged the 10 & 12" fry pans. This is made from the 10" pan, 3-2" hole saw plugs, a 3/8 bolt and some JB weld epoxy.
I may add a handle using the old rivet holes.
Now the challenge will be getting back up from laying on my stomach on the beach.
Or Repurposed Fry Pan br br My tripod has a cente... (

If you had the 80 or 90 D you would not have to lay on your stomach !

When I first read and looked at your adaption for ground level shooting my mind immediately when to your last sentence.

The conclusion: 'leave this to you younger folks'.

I have an altered right arm/hand. Crushed in a fall. Elbow and wrist are frozen. So my right hand can not reach my face/ hold a camera in a normal way. The grip is an adaption I built to allow me to look through the VF.prior to the grip I could only shoot watching live view on the lcd.
So I can not do backbutton focus and use the shutter button, on a remote switch, to start sf and release shutter.
When shooting of a tripod and possible the ground pod it theory I could do bbf with my left hand but it seems more trouble then it might be worth.

Larry,
If the dog hadn't stopped to take a leak he might have caught the rabbit.
I have an articulated lcd on the t3i and did use it occasionally while holding the camera down low. But I prefer looking through the vf.
The articulated screen was a consideration when I was choosing between the 80d 90d and 7dii. In the end I decided I could live without it.

My wife seems to agree with you.
Kind if a low budget version of a platypod. I appreciate the savings but I really like the flexibility the platypod brings. I was on
a hike and shooting waterfalls this past Saturday and the platypod was a game changer. Not only did it save me a few pounds on a 7 mile hike, but it allowed for a quick, low angle setup on the rocks below the various falls. The advantage of the platypod over the frying pan, other than weight, is the adjustable legs which allowed for a solid platform on uneven rocks. I like your cheap solution though.
I like it. Getting my camera on the ground is not difficult for me. Getting ME off the ground is where I have a problem. Instead of a fry pan I should mount my camera to a pillow where I could take a nap while I'm down there for awhile.

Great idea. I need something like that for on the ground macro shots. And yes, I can still get up from lying flat.
Depends on the day how well I can get up.
