On1 Photo Raw has an easy-to-use object removal feature. I don't know if it's worth $100 to me. A lower update price would be nice.

EDIT: Upgrade price is $80.

Affinity Photo has a far better object removal tool than On1, their Inpainting Brush Tool, which is content aware. On1's tool typically requires several passes to remove residua of the object being removed, while Affinity's tool usually gets it first time, and the corrected area blends better.

And the cost of AP can't be beat. And Serif doesn't tweak their software annually and expect you to essentially repurchase it every year.

On1's tool is a good one but there are better ones out there. Overall, On1 is a really nice processing software for the price, though.

If you’re paying $100 for ON1 PR, don’t! There are a few discounts each year and, if you go to Anthony Morganti’s website, he always has a discount coupon avail that can be stacked onto ON1’s current price even if on sale.

Actually I disagree. On1 is my prime pp software with its Data Asset Management and raw processor. I own affinity which is a great deal at $24. It’s stacking functions are better than On1 in their current version. On1 removal tools are as good as any as long as you use the correct ones. And On1 is non-destructive. Some other apps are destructive.

For me, Luminar has the best removal tool, better than ON1; I tried ON1 and it doesn’t measure up to that in Luminar 4 or AI for me.

Both, though, are better than LR’s attempt.

Interested in this conversation. I currently use ON1 as my sole editor.

Different softwares have their strengths and weaknesses.
I agree that ON1 is great for file management, and sometimes for quick editing.
Whereas Affinity Photo for editing is more like Photoshop, with individual tools rather than primarily relying on "effects" in ON1. This becomes a matter of personal choice.

However I think Affinity Photo is much better for object removal, cloning and working with layers. Also better for adding a signature or watermark using a brush in a separate layer.

One thing I truly dislike about ON1 is that after applying an "effect", none of the adjustment sliders change, so you have no idea how the effect works, and have no ability to tweak it other than to adjust its intensity.
I've given up on Luminar as I find it to be no longer better at anything.

On1 is $49.99 if you're in education, the military, public service, or a veteran.

Object removal in Affinity is quite good. However,
one major plus for ON1 is that its tools work directly on raw files. If I recall correctly, in Affinity those tools can't be applied to raw files within the Develop persona. While that may not be a factor for you, it can important to dedicated raw shooters.

David: from your comments above, it appears to me that you don't use or have fully explored ON1 Raw software. For each Effect there are multiple "tweaking" options - e.g. in the Color Enhancer effect there are 9 options/sliders and a whole range of Blending options, in the Curves effect, there are three sliders and a full set of Red/
green/Blue adjustments all along the curve plus Blending and Opacity adjusters. Check out each effect/filter and you will see an wide variety of options ? In addition, the overall AI option shows in detail on each slider what changes have been made -- and importantly, all adjustments are non-destructive and can be adjusted individually at any time.

Affinity Photo Inpainting Brush is a great object removal tool.

David,
You don't have to apply effects in On1. You can turn them on or off but using the blue button in the upper left corner. If you click the effect after making adjustments it will minimize the panel if you click on a minimized panel it will reopen it and you can change any setting. The same is true for presets.
