I can recall when the rich paid 70% of their income in taxes before deductions. Then along came the Republicans and threw a wrench into the entire thing.
They reduced the tax rate for the rich and then went about eliminating the deductions for the middle class.

Actually the top rate was 90%. But nobody' NOBODY paid more than about 50%. Which is about what the top earners pat today. BTW the wealthy are mobile and their money is also mobile all higher rates will do is force more money as well as manufacturing overseas. It has been prooved many times decreased tax rates increases the amount of tax money the government recieves. In high tax states like NY and Ca the high earners pay over 6 % in federal, state and local taxes/ Hence the exodus of those high earners tp state like Fla and Tx. The state taxes in NY and CA is over 6% By moving to either of those states a 10 million $ earner can put close to 1 million in his pocket by simply moving to Tx
