Thanks Mike. Outside of the highly adaptable Red-tails, I have to admit, itβs still a bit unusual to me also. And getting more unusual. In recent years, Bald Eagles have been a regular sight along the lower Hudson River, with new park residents, Coopers and Sharp-shinned Hawks.
The big apple is not alone...
Washington D.C. is home to two known nesting pairs of bald eagles: Mr. President and the First Lady, who have lived in a tulip poplar at the National Arboretum for the past seven years, and Liberty and Justice, who moved into a tree above the D.C. Police Academy in Southwest DC around 2005.
EZ access to the Potomac River is pivotal here...
Rivers are the lifeblood of birds of prey...
