Livingston Methodist Church org 1833 Livingston, Jawja
The old Livingston community was for a time the Floyd County seat and apparently the nucleus of early development throughout NW Jawja until the seat was moved to Rome. The first building was a one room log cabin with a stick and dirt chimney that served the church until it was destroyed by a storm. In 1852 a second building, a simple one room white frame structure with two front doors was built and served the community through at least the last known church history was recorded in 1951. My guess is this building, the third church house, was built sometime during the 60’s. Finally the church was decommissioned and closed about ten years ago, ending over 175 years of service...this is what’s left now.

Being that it is brick, that building is probably very restorable.

I think you’re right...the doors were locked, windows and roof looked intact which are all good signs. The small belfry is open to the weather and animals. Putting it back in use as a church would be a undertaking in itself. When I was a boy I remember that area was one small farm after another...now two brothers own or lease all the farmable land and a forestry company controls several large parcels in that part of the county. Over time the young people have moved on while the old people died off as the land came under consolidated control. Thanks for taking a look NMGal.
