Beautiful photograph. I wish you luck with the new equipment. Looks like you are doing well so far.

Thanks, Dennis. The flash is 'manual only' so the power (which is actually the duration of the flash) does not communicate with the camera other than to fire it. I made the large diffuser that attaches to the end of the lens out of vellum tracing paper with a piece of wire around the perimeter to keep its shape.

The macro lens does not autofocus on the Z6 so I turned the focus ring to the closest distance and put Gorilla Tape on it to keep it in place. The aperture setting does communicate so I can dial it with the camera knob.

So to get ready for the season soon to arrive I have to burn some time to find what settings work best. I know that it looks like a 'Rube Goldberg' contraption however it shows a lot of promise.

Hey, no complaints from me on your equipment. If it works it is for me. I am still using the old tried and true Douglass Moody suggestion to newbies, both me and Brenda, that got me going in Macro photography. He had suggested a Fotodiox screen and then, along with his friend, Bill, as I recall, showed me how to set it up. I would have been lost with Douglass and his tips plus nagging comments, practice, practice and then to top it all off, more practice. My first attempts were absolutely horrifying but I progressed from terrible images on film, er, uh, ahhh, on computer screen digitals to somewhat acceptable to excellent photos. Thank you Douglass.

Who makes your flash unit. Is it marked Kuang Ren? Looks like it and the diffuser work great.

It's a Laowa twin flash labeled under Kuang Ren. Here's a great five-minute video of the renowned Thomas Shahan and how he uses it. https://youtu.be/8JbJzENXjz8

Well worth the watch for he shows other techniques as well. Laowa makes very nice lenses including a 100mm 1x-2x macro and a 2.5x-5x macro for the non-Canon users who have access to the MPE-65 1x-5x macro. I have a few of their products and they are quite bulletproof. By the way, the 100mm 1x-2x is an APO glass...Oh Wow!

Thanks, HOT Texas. Getting in a bit of practice while waiting for the moment to arrive. I'm seeing more and more insect activity now and things are greening up in the once brown dried fields.

This is another of the little wild purple violets from our yard. I am experimenting with my new 'bendy arm' dual head flash with a DIY diffuser paired with the Nikon Nikkor 200mm f/4D-IF ED macro lens mounted on the Nikon Z6. Although I've had the lens for a bit now the camera and flash are new so practice...practice...practice is needed to be ready for things that will start to pop in the next few weeks.

Sippy, excellent as always.

I think I saw the same thing in the Movie Alien. It was chasing Ripley down the hallway.

Thanks, Greg. It's either been rain or stiff breezes here which have made it difficult to shoot anything close up here.
