This is one of many items in our antique collection. It looks like some sort of handle, but for what? Anyone know how it works, and what it is for?

My guess would be a handle that you could attach to a Pyrex baking dish to remove it from a hot oven.

Similar to the more modern Corningware handles, this is a removable handle for early Pyrex pie pans.
Here is a Photo on eBay.

Good guess. Now I see it was for mid-century Pyrex like you said. Nice to know what we have collected is used for.

Pyrex dishes, grew up with several in the drawer, had similar for Corning Ware too.

This one looks like an early version. I inherited a couple of these from my Mom that actuate the dish’s tab clamping action by turning the end of the handle.

I'm sure I did too, my mother had everything for the kitchen, just didn't remember them.

It looks to me it is a 5 gallon plastic bucket lid opener.
