My car will not allow an accessory left on to discharge the battery - when the battery voltages drops below a certain threshold, it disables everything except the starter, engine and door locks - i wish all cars had this feature. My wife’s doesn’t, and I think one of these chargers might be a good investment.

Jerry, I would get a new battery. When a batter run's out you need to replace it as it never is the same.

Super capacitor is the way to go. It's the newest technology that doesn't need to stay charged. They're about $130 on Amazon. I have the Autowit. Check out the reviews. You'll never buy a Lithium Ion or lead acid power pack again. Progress marches on.

I have looked at those, how long will it maintain charge capability if used often in real life scenerio?

The manufacturer claims a 10 year lifespan. That's better than a 3 year lead acid battery and at least twice as long as a lithium battery. Throw it and the trunk and forget about it until you need it.

About a week ago, I bought a Tacklife battery jumper. I did that because I left the headlights on, and the battery went dead. I figured since I bought the jumper, I'd never have a dead battery again. Wrong! I got in the car yesterday, pushed the button, and "Grr, grr, grr." Within about a minute, the Tacklife had the engine running. It seems the car door wasn't closed completely, so the interior lights were on for a couple of days.

I would recommend that you get one of the many compact battery jumpers now available.

I bought one from Costco probably 10 years ago. Still works, holds a charge for months also inflates tires. I'm using it off and on to inflate the Firestone air bags on my Ram 2500, adding air to tires and an occasional battery jump for myself or to help a stranded driver in a parking lot. Great tool.

Thanks... I'll have to look at them again when my old Matco Jump Box gives it up. I have approx 8/10 yrs. on it, still works, just have to remember to charge it twice a year now. During hurricane/weather outages they are great (power banks/jump boxes/charging stations) for lighting/fans/tv/computer - and for long outages we have a small quiet generator, and a big honkin job if needed.

Jerry, do you just need a new battery and/or alternator?

Jerry, have you had any more failures with your vehicle battery? If not, you may be good to go.

I think the supercapacitor jump is brilliant. I was not aware that a product like that was on the market. Right away I am thinking I want a hybrid or a two-part system that integrates a smaller, lighter battery with a supercapacitor. Imagine retrofitting that into millions of vehicles.
