Red Shoulder Hawk, Green Cay, Florida.
Sony a9, Sony 600 f4 @f4, 1/2000 sec. ISO 800
When I shoot birds in flight I have found that when they make sharp changes in direction the head stays level, the rest of the body twists around it.

Really nice shot! I have found the same to be true, the head sits on a gimble.

The a1 is $6500.00, I am taking really excellent images with my ebay a9 with grip I picked up for under 2K. I want to know how the a1 handles noise, I am not happy with my a7r4 because of the amount of noise.
Sometimes my 600 f4 (not my 200-600) has trouble with initial focusing on birds in flight (not so with my Nikon system, which seems much faster on initial focusing).
And, the Nikon Z9 is due out this fall, I have the luxury of waiting to see how both the Z9 and a1 handle noise in the real world.
The a1 was also supposed to be faster on initial focusing. So, we shall wait and see. Then I will decide.
Thanks for the input.

Appreciate the feedback. No Nikon considerations for me (100% Sony). Have not noticed any noise issues with the A7Riv, but if present, Topaz comes to the rescue. I am still happy, as you are, with the a9. Can get very satisfactory results, but the features of the a1 (better focus, eye af, faster frame rate, larger sensor) are intriguing. I will order one, sooner or later, but the price makes it difficult to pull the trigger. Happy shooting!
