My Nikon D500 has now ruined a lens in a 2nd pair of glasses. I've found some information that talks about a cover of some kind that fits the viewfinder but I'm not sure that's what I need. Does anyone have experience with this issue and found a workable solution?

Have you lost the rubber around the eye piece that comes with the camera? You can get new ones for a couple of bucks. I order them five at a time from BH. They wear out with use, then the plastic can scratch your lens. Also diopter adjustment is only +- three diopters or so. Good for tune up but would never replace glasses for most people. My glasses are + 13.5. (Kept me out of Vietnam)

Try using some Crest toothpaste on the damaged lens and polish it with a fine cloth. If the plastic isn't gouged and just light scratching, you may be able to polish the lens out. I heard this tip on a radio program and tried it. It worked.

I would be interested to know how it's scratching your glasses. Don't you have a rubber eyecup on it?

The basic rules for that are if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail it requires some heavy duty polishing. Yest toothpaste works well as you know. Lol

As a left eye shooter and wearing a mask, I take off my glasses and use the diopter.

Wearing a mask? You afraid you’ll infect your camera?

If he (me, you) is shooting around other people, of course he would be wearing a mask. On a forest trail, probably not
