Here's some information for you. The many people coming up from southern Mexico, Guatamala and El Salvador are running from the drug cartels that are running those areas. They're running because these same people will k**l them or their children if they don't cooperate with them.
The exodus will go on indefinitely until the United States addresses its' drug epidemic. In effect, the USA is financing the drug cartels by buying their drugs. The drugs aren't being brought over the border in back packs. They're being brought in by submersable boats, go fast boats, shipping containers, airplanes, and freighters.
We need to stop using drugs or this will go on forever.
Perhaps we should adopt the Portugal model, legalize drugs and treat it as a health problem, not a crime.
As a result we would also make more room in prisons for real criminals instead of releasing dangerous criminals early because our prisons are overcrowded.
Just a thought.

Another point to consider is the horrible economic aftermath of the two 2020 hurricanes in central America. President Biden asked if we can imagine how terrible conditions must be for a parent to send their children alone on the journey north to our border. Most of us, thankfully, don't have to imagine - let alone live with - that kind of decision.
Yes, we have plenty of homegrown problems to deal with, but accepting a few thousand children will not set us back in those areas.

That may be true in some cases. But that is not the border agents job to decide if they merit asylum. That is the job of the immigration judge - and certainly not yours.

I do agree we can't absorb all the world's problems. However, we've certainly had a big hand in trying, for decades. Out of curiosity I looked up the foreign aid proposed by Bush (W) during his presidency. Interesting! Of course you may have been a critic of his, too. No matter. We are presently talking about children: let them starve or be k**led south of the border, or attempt to help them.
