Each morning about 10:30 after crossing the river, you will hear the sound of thud! thud! Thud! repeated. Looking around, the horses drop one by one and are instantly in Lala land sound asleep. They look so peaceful as they sleep some even with smiles.

Wonderful opportunity, and good photos! There was a Rancher / Farmer who had a horse who often slept four legs in the air in a pasture near a road. He had so many folks stop to tell him his horse had died, he put up a sign "No, He's Not!"

I always thought horses slept standing up , and that lying down for a horse was life threatening, so a lying down horse would bd set upright fir survival . Where did that info come from ?

That's basically true. Except if you notice there are some that are still standing up (even if they are sleeping). They can 'lock their knees so they don't fall down while asleep and can also act as watchers for the rest of the herd. Also, they don't sleep for very long periods at a time.

What a nice series!! I knew horses could sleep standing up, but never saw them sleeping lying down until now.
Keep on posting,
Don

These are unique shots. I suspect they are also enjoying the sunshine!
