I’ve seen cormorants communal feed by swimming in a U shape, herding the fish in front of them, then diving for them. I’ve seen snowy egrets in front of the U, hoping for a fish. I’ve never seen this before! The snowy hovered in front of the cormorant, very persistent. The cormorant looked peeved. Then the snowy landed on the back of the cormorant! He stayed there for about 15 seconds and then the cormorant dove. Both ended up with a fish! These pics aren’t wall hangers, but even with a 4000 shutter speed, the action was fast and furious and I thought you might enjoy the sequence. Definitely look at the downloads. Exposure difficult with white bird and dark bird, but you get the idea. Nature is just incredible!

I’ve never seen it, but that was one pushy snowy! Thanks, quixdraw!

One of the strangest things I’ve seen. I know the species feed together, but not like this!
Thanks, Cwilson341!

If you can't steal a fish from your friend who can you steel it from.
Excellent series

Wow amazing series. I have never seen a Snowy Egret behave in this manner. I'm surprised the cormorant didn't just grab a fish and dive away. You need to hang this series on a long wall.

I know, strange, right?? I had no idea why the snowy was hovering over the cormorant and when he landed, I was shocked!
Thanks, Curmudgeon!
