Ft. Macon guards the entrance to Beaufort, NC on the easternmost point of Atlantic Beach. In one form or another it's been active since the late 1700's. It's mainly brick construction, about 2 1/5 million bricks in it's walls. It was last active as a coastal defense point during WWII. At the outbreak of World War II, the US Army leased the park from the state and actively manned the old fort with Coast Artillery troops to protect a number of important nearby facilities. The fort was occupied from December 1941 to November 1944. During the occupation some unsuspecting soldiers rolled cannonballs into the fireplaces as andirons, mistaking them for solid iron shot. The powder-filled balls exploded, killing two men and injuring others- thus firing the "last shot of the Civil War".
I de-saturated this print to give a more old-timey feel to the civil war era food stock on display.
You’re very creative to treat your image this way. I can’t wait to come across something to apply this idea of editing to fit the subject.
