This now abandoned filling station is where I purchased most of my gas in the '70s and '80s. It has been abandoned for about 15 years and I wanted to photograph it before it gets torn down. I finally got it done yesterday. It was extremely bright and contrasty so I bracketed each with seven shots at 0.3 stop increments, then picked the best exposure in post. By "best exposure", I mean the highest exposure with nothing blown out after ACR and PS adjustments. We're supposed to get some rain in a couple of days and I'm thinking maybe I should re-photograph this building in overcast light.

Nicely done, particularly like #2, a rendition in the spirit of the times.

Jack great series of the past. Your second image gives a great perspective. Thanks for sharing

The second photograph with its darkened sky is really nice. Was it taken with the equivalent of a yellow or light orange filter or was the equivalent postproduction treatment given?

I like the second one. You know, assuming you still have all your shots (and, used a tripod), you could produce an interesting HDR rendering, as well.

No filters. The sky was darkened simply by moving the blue slider luminance slider in ACR a little. When I tried that on the other two images the sky did not darken uniformly, probably due to facing a different direction.

I took these on a tripod using my new three way geared head (which I am learning to love when not in a hurry). I bracketed only in 0.3 stop increments so I don't think there would be anything to be gained my HDR'ing them. Actually, the more I try HDR the more I find that very rarely is that necessary if I have a well done ETTR exposure.

Nice and evocative. Shooting during or after some rain might provide even more « atmosphere. » If you recreate your second image, it might be good to avoid cutting off the back corner of the canopy.

Great images!
Lease the facility, would probably make a great photography studio.
